Job summary

Arrowleaf is seeking a Counselor (Crisis Worker) to join the Behavioral Health team across multiple Illinois offices. The role provides crisis intervention services through the 24/7 Crisis Response and Intervention Services program, helping individuals during acute stress and coordinating with emergency services as needed.

You will assess risk, develop safety plans, document treatments, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field.
• Qualifies as Mental Health Professional (MHP).
• Evening/weekend availability required.
• Travel to off-site/community locations and to all agency sites.

Responsibilities

• Crisis response on a call-in basis, primarily nights and weekends with some days.
• Must accept at least one crisis call per month to maintain call-in status.
• Provide crisis intervention to stabilize consumers using short-term techniques.
• Utilize screening tools to evaluate risk and advise on needed care.
• Collaborate with emergency services, law enforcement, and medical staff.
• Develop safety plans and link clients to ongoing supports.
• Ensure continuity of care through clear communication within the agency.
• Maintain networking/referral contacts with other providers.
• Complete forms and documentation promptly.
• Participate in team meetings and supervision with supervisor.
• Record and document treatment according to policy.
• Screen, assess, and intervene with trauma-related symptoms.
• Follow policy for reporting abuse/neglect.

Program(s): Crisis Response and Intervention Services program (590) - The Crisis Response and Intervention Services, which are available 24/7, help people of all ages deal with immediate stressors, minimize the negative effects of physical or mental health challenges, and cope with a loss of functioning in any area of life.

Immediate Supervisor: Behavioral Health Officer - Marisa Varney

Hours of Work: Full-time 36 hr./week

• Sunday: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
• Friday: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
• Saturday: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm

FLAS Classification: Non-exempt

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Human Services or related field. Qualifies as a Mental Health Professional (MHP).

Skills & Knowledge: Skills in the delivery of crisis support services; knowledge of local health and human services resources; excellent written and oral communication skills; basic computer skills; ability to navigate enhanced phone system.

Special Requirements: Evening/weekend availability is required; must be 21 years of age or older; travel to off-site or community based locations is required; travel to all agency sites when appropriate; schedules evening / or weekend hours as necessary; must complete and maintain the required registry clearance and criminal fingerprint background checks; maintain First aid & CPR certification; must have a valid drivers license and proof of vehicle liability insurance.

• Provides crisis intervention to stabilize consumers condition by utilizing short-term crisis intervention techniques and referrals to other support services.
• Utilizes approved screening and assessment tools to evaluate the level of risk for individuals presenting in mental health crisisand makes informed recommendations to the on-call QMHP regarding needed level of care.
• Collaborate with emergency services, law enforcement, and medical professionals to ensure a seamless and integrated response to crisis situations.
• Develops safety plans collaboratively with clients to leverage natural supports, ensure ongoing support, address environmental safety, and facilitate access to necessary resources.
• Facilitates communication externally and across agency staff/applicable programs to ensure continuity of care for individuals presenting in crisis services.
• Maintains networking and referral contacts with other human service providers both internally and externally.
• Completes all required forms and documentation in a timely and efficient manner.
• Demonstrates active involvement in team/program meetings and supervision with dire ct supervisor.
• Records and documents consumer treatment by following established policies and procedures.
• Ability to screen, assess and provide interventions for consumers that are exhibiting symptoms of trauma.
• Follows agency policy and procedure for all reports of abuse and neglect or suspected abuse and neglect.
