Job summary

NWC News Desk in Powell, WY is seeking a Counselor – Student Success Program Coordinator to provide counseling services and coordinate disability or personal counseling programs that support student academic success. The role reports to Ty Barrus and serves as a liaison with faculty and staff to deliver services to students.

The position is 9 months, exempt staff, with a starting salary up to $46,345.50 per year (FY2027) and fully-benefited status.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Counseling or related field is required.
  • Wyoming Licensed Professional Counselor required; background check.
  • Experience with student services or counseling programs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide student counseling, advising, and advocacy for individuals or groups.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the program and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support students and coordinate activities with internal departments.
  • Compile, prepare, and review data and related reports; present workshops and informational sessions.
  • Offer one-on-one advising, counseling, and learning strategies to diverse student populations.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

This job provides counseling services and coordinates the activities for one of several specialized disability or personal counseling programs that support student academic success, which include, learning strategies, disability advocacy, or personal and career counseling and/or development programs.

Provides student counseling, advising, consulting, advocacy, and other support services, to individual or groups of students in area of speciality.

Implements program goals, objectives, activities, and strategic initiatives, and assesses consequences and outcomes of program initiatives.

Coordinates the day to day operations of an assigned program which includes ensuring compliance with applicable internal and external requirements,.

Serves as a liaison for program activities and services; Works with faculty and staff to provide support and services for students; and coordinates program activities with other internal departments and external agencies.

Compiles, prepares and reviews data and related reports and correspondence.

Coordinates and presents workshops and/or related informational sessions on topics in assigned area of responsibility.

Positions assigned to Counselor/Counseling may be responsible for:
Provide one‑on‑one student advising, consulting, and/or counseling services to include but are not limited to the following: support resolution of personal issues in dealing with everyday issues as well as significant life struggles, identify constructive ways to deal with complex life situations, gaining understanding, knowledge and perspective on various life circumstances, support development of decision making skills, reinforcement of student self‑direction, problem‑solving, and provide learning strategies for success to diverse student populations.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Training and Experience

Master’s Degree in Counseling or related field is required.

Licensing Requirements

Valid Wyoming Licensed Professional Counselor
Acceptable background check required

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Incumbents may be subjected to travel, weekends, and evening work.
