Job summary

Missouri Western State University’s Saint Joseph campus seeks a full-time Counselor to provide mental health services for students. You’ll carry a caseload, conduct assessments, and develop treatment plans while delivering individual and group therapy and crisis support.

Qualifications

Job Description

Missouri Western State University is seeking qualified candidatesfor a full-time Counselor position. Counselors will work toprovide mental health services for university students. Specificduties will include carrying a regular caseload (up to 6appointments daily), conducting mental health assessments,developing individualized treatment plans, leading individual andgroup therapy sessions, crisis management duties, runningpreventive mental health wellness classes and/or workshops andmaking treatment referrals. Additionally, while maintaining a highlevel of professionalism, counselors will be expected to be activewithin the university division of student affairs and provideappropriate services and support.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Provides individual and group counseling, rendering appropriatemental health services to university students
  • Carrying a regular caseload (up to 6 appointments daily)
  • Crisis management duties
  • Develops and directs mental health-related presentations asrequested
  • Maintains professional accreditation and contacts for thepurpose of remaining current with discipline
  • Engage with the division of student affairs, being agreeable toserving on various committees and participating in various divisionendeavors, such as strategic planning and assessment
  • Provides clinical supervision for intern/practicum students asappropriate
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work orrelated field
  • Two years of counseling experience
Physical Demands
  • Sedentary Work
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or anegligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry,push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs aresedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionallyand all other sedentary criteria are met.
