Job summary

Holy Rosary School (Seattle) is seeking a dedicated School Counselor to support students from preschool through 8th grade. You will collaborate with homeroom teachers and administration to promote emotional safety and social-emotional development within the curriculum and school climate.

The role involves individual and group counseling, classroom lessons on SEL, crisis response when needed, and close coordination with families to support student well-being and achievement.

Qualifications

  • WA State ESA certification as a school counselor preferred; other professional certification (i.e. MSW, LMHC) will be considered.
  • Experience working with elementary and middle school students and parents in a school setting.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Salary Range: $57,150.00 - $100,211.00 Salary

SalaryHoly Rosary School (Seattle) is a dynamic STEM plus Catholic school in West Seattle dedicated to helping their students grow as disciples of Christ. Serving students from preschool - 8th grade, we looking for a school counselor to join our faculty of committed, faith-filled, and collaborative educators beginning in September, 2026.

Position

The school counselor will collaborate with homeroom teachers and administration, supporting students and facilitating the implementation of curriculum to promote emotionally safe classrooms. The counselor may also meet with students individually and facilitate student social groups during lunch or recess.

Goal

To foster a safe learning environment for all students, promoting the social-emotional development of each student.

Duties (including, but not limited to)
  • Provide students with counseling in both individualized and group settings to ensure academic and emotional progress
  • Work with faculty and parents to address any performance and/or behavioral concerns and facilitate appropriate interventions
  • Deliver developmentally-appropriate structured classroom lessons periodically that support academic achievement, social/emotional learning, conflict resolution, and self-management to help students attain personal/social competencies
  • Utilize data to determine the effectiveness of the school counseling program and counseling interventions and to guide future actions
  • Support student development and engagement at recess, in accordance with counseling duties
  • Refer children needing additional screening or support to appropriate outside agencies or resources
  • Support schoolwide initiatives related to positive school climate, attendance, student well-being, and social-emotional learning
  • Serve as a leader in identifying systemic barriers and implementing strategies to improve student access and achievement
  • Facilitate small-group counseling related to social skills, emotional regulation, grief, friendship, attendance, self-esteem, and other student needs
  • Maintain accurate records while safeguarding student confidentiality in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain current knowledge of best practices in school counseling
  • Conduct risk assessments and crisis response interventions as needed, following district policies and professional ethical standards
  • Occasional evening attendance at family or school events may be required
  • Attend trainings and staff meetings as required
Qualifications
  • WA State ESA certification as a school counselor preferred; other professional certification (i.e. MSW, LMHC) will be considered
  • Experience working with the academic, social, and emotional needs of elementary and middle school age students and parents in a school setting
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information with parents, teachers and administrators
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making.
  • Experience with student and parent programming and informational sessions
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaborative skills
  • Knowledge of social-emotional curriculum and frameworks including Second Step and PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) or similar programs
  • The ability to develop collaborative working relationships with parents and staff
  • The ability to conduct classroom presentations, meetings, and counseling sessions.
  • Be a practicing Catholic or be willing and able to support the mission of Catholic education

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
