Reporting to the Counseling Center Director and joining an existing team of licensed psychologists, professional counselors, social workers, substance use counselors and an APNP, this full time 10-month per year position must be a strong generalist clinician able to provide direct counseling/therapeutic services to Marquette and MIAD students. As this position is intended to further contribute to the diversity and richness of the MUCC team, to better understand the lived experiences of students from underrepresented populations, and to enhance support for the Center’s social justice commitments, the ideal candidate will demonstrate focused experience working in counseling and advocacy/outreach with students and student groups from historically marginalized and underrepresented identities/communities and those student groups less likely to seek mental health care.

The scope of this role includes:

Providing assessment and therapeutic services to the Marquette/ MIAD student communities, including individual and group counseling, consultation, and crisis intervention.
Providing consultation to staff, students and families regarding clinical issues, available services and the functioning of the Counseling Center as needed.
Coordinating the provision of outreach services for under-represented student groups on campus.

Outside of clinical care responsibilities, this position:

Takes leadership of coordination and outreach to the campus and key stakeholders.
Serves as a visible presence at student sponsored events.
Interfaces with departments on campus that also traditionally work with underrepresented students.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide professional counseling services, individual and group, for Marquette/ MIAD students.
2. Provide crisis intervention, consultation and referrals services for students, faculty and staff.
3. Coordinate services for underrepresented students, to include linking with integral campus offices (Office of Intercultural Engagement, Educational Opportunity Program, LGBTQ+ Resource Center, International Student office, etc), connecting with student groups, providing outreach and education about counseling, help with first generation support efforts, and develop community referral networks.
4. Serve as a liaison to both a residence hall and an academic college.
5. Potentially select, train and supervise doctoral psychology graduate students in their practicum placement at the CC and/or a post-doctoral clinical fellow.
6. Provide outreach throughout the year, including some after hours and weekends.
7. Prepare semester/annual reports summarizing coordination efforts at the MU-CC.
8. Support Counseling Center initiatives to increase utilization of services by students less likely to seek mental health support.
9. Serve on internal work groups or university/divisional committees when requested.
10. Maintain licensure or obtain WI license and maintain if licensed outside the state of WI within 1 year of hire.
11. Serve in after hours on call rotation as needed.
12. Participate in in-service training programs both within/outside the Counseling Center.
13. Participate in local, regional, and national professional association/conferences.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Doctoral/Masters level mental health degree and licensed in the state of Wisconsin.

3-5 years of clinical experience

Relevant assessment/therapy experience with college students or young adults: Ideal candidates will come to the role with the demonstrated ability to provide services that are responsive and sensitive to the needs of unique student populations, specifically students of color, including those that identify as LGBTQI+, in recovery, and students who identify with intersecting identities.

Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use culturally relevant/sensitive psychotherapy within time limited scope of practice.

Ability to work with high acuity students with complex mental health needs.

Consultation and crisis management skills.

Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Expressed commitment to and support of program objectives of anti-racism and social justice.

Knowledge of and experience working with university students.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience with college student mental health and expertise in one or more of the following: eating disorders, alcohol or drug abuse, prevention, crisis intervention, trauma, career counseling, group counseling.
University counseling center experience and/or work with college-aged demographic, including non-traditional aged and professional school students.
Experience providing clinical supervision to trainees.
