About this Opportunity

Camp Achieve is a day camp for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder between the ages of 6 and 12 that provides innovative programming and therapeutic recreational activities to improve the social, behavioral, and academic skills of autistic students. Camp Counselors will attend, plan, execute, and engage in daily camp activities for autistic children ages 6-12 in a 6-week summer day camp. Additionally, this position will ensure the direct supervision of campers.


Camp Achieve Counselors will receive training before camp begins from May 22 to June 6, 2025, including certification in Professional Crisis Management. Camp will occur from June 9 to July 15, 2025, with parent conferences occurring on July 16 and final reporting and clean up occurring through July 18th. Designated university holidays including Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19, and Independence Day on Friday, July 4 will be observed. Counselors are expected to work Monday-Friday from 7:30am until 3:30pm.

Minimum Requirements
  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Experience working in a camp.
  3. Must be able to stand/walk/kneel for long periods of time.
  4. Possess strong judgment and critical thinking skills.
  5. Possess the ability to make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Possess the ability to problem solve in a proactive manner and make decisions around participant safety and well-being.
  7. Possess the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  8. Possess the ability to relate/work well to children with autism spectrum disorders and their families.
  9. Willingness to participate in staff development activities, as assigned.
  10. Must have ability to obtain university-approved First Aid/ CPR certification, when assigned.
  11. Must earn certification in Professional Crisis Management (Training provided during first week of training).
  12. Must have the ability to assist campers in the pool (i.e., must be comfortable in the shallow end of a pool).
  13. Must have the ability to assist campers with physical care (including, but not limited to: toileting, dressing, and eating).
  14. Must be 18 years or older.
