Position: Recreation Specialist - Camp Achieve

Camp Achieve is a day camp for children with autism spectrum disorder aged 6-12, offering innovative programming and therapeutic recreational activities to enhance social, behavioral, and academic skills. Recreation Specialists will develop, schedule, and coordinate activities.

Training will occur from May 22 to June 6, 2025, including certification in Professional Crisis Management. The camp runs from June 9 to July 15, 2024, with parent conferences on July 16 and final activities through July 18. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, with university holidays observed.

Compensation and Requirements
  • Salary begins at $17.00/hour
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • 40 hours/week
  • Background check required
Responsibilities
  1. Supervise camp scheduling and logistics, collaborating with camp directors.
  2. Develop and coordinate recreational activities.
  3. Assist in supervising staff.
  4. Work with counselors to develop individualized activities.
  5. Monitor children's development.
  6. Oversee use and maintenance of supplies and facilities.
  7. Serve as a role model and lead in emergencies.
  8. Assist children with daily living activities.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
  10. Maintain regular attendance.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in activity planning and teamwork
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel for long periods
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well with children with autism and their families
  • Willingness to participate in staff development and obtain First Aid/CPR and Crisis Management certifications
  • Must be 18 or older, proficient in English
Additional Information

Applicants must have current authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred experience includes working with children with disabilities in recreational settings.
