Job description

A Behavioral Health Counselor in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, typically provides therapeutic services to individuals dealing with mental health and substance use challenges. These roles are often available through healthcare facilities, community mental health centers, and private practices.

  • Clinical Assessment & Counseling: Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments and provide individual, group, and family therapy sessions. Utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders.
  • Treatment Planning & Documentation: Develop personalized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support during mental health crises, including safety planning and de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaboration & Referrals: Work closely with medical providers, case managers, and community resources to coordinate comprehensive care and make appropriate referrals.
  • Compliance & Professional Development: Adhere to all regulatory requirements and participate in ongoing training to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Licensure: Active and unrestricted license in Kentucky, such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or equivalent.
  • Experience: Typically, a minimum of 1–3 years of clinical experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred.
