Job summary

Pyramid Healthcare's Allentown outpatient program seeks a full-time Intensive Outpatient Counselor to join our clinical team. You will provide individual, group, process, and family therapies, supporting intake, treatment plans, and daily clinical operations.

Responsibilities include assessments, documentation, insurance reviews, and crisis intervention within a structured, supportive setting for clients on their recovery journey.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree from an accredited college with a behavioral health major.
• Bachelor's or Associate's degree plus clinical experience as specified.
• Full certification as an addictions counselor or PA RN/Physician licensure.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individual, group, process, and family therapy in outpatient setting.
• Support intake, assessments, and develop treatment plans.
• Complete insurance/utilization reviews and maintain documentation.
• Attend supervision, shift meetings, and ensure timely client files.
• Provide crisis intervention and maintain a safe therapeutic environment.

Education

Master's Degree in behavioral health

Bachelor's Degree + 1 year clinical experience

Associate's Degree + 2 years clinical experience

Addictions counselor certification

Our Allentown, PA outpatient program provides a supportive, therapeutic environment where clients can build strength, develop skills, and reclaim overall health and well‑being. We are currently seeking a full‑time Intensive Outpatient Counselor to join our dedicated outpatient clinical team.

Schedule

• Monday-Thursday: 1:00pm-9:00pm


• Friday: 8:00am-4:00pm

Position Overview

The Counselor plays a key role in delivering individual therapy, group therapy, process groups, and family therapy within our outpatient program. This position also supports daily clinical operations, intake processes, and documentation requirements to ensure the highest level of client care.

Key Responsibilities

• Support daily clinical operations, including assessments, utilization review, and therapeutic services.


• Provide individual counseling, group therapy, and family therapy to clients engaged in outpatient treatment.


• Conduct client intake assessments and assist in developing individualized treatment plans.


• Complete insurance and utilization reviews as needed.


• Attend shift‑change meetings, supervision, and required company meetings.


• Maintain a caseload and ensure all client documentation is accurate and timely.


• Assist the Program Director with program coverage and service needs.


• Perform clerical duties related to maintaining compliant and organized client files.


• Actively listen to clients and support them in all aspects of their treatment.


• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment, including crisis intervention when appropriate.


• Complete all required trainings and maintain mandatory continuing education hours.


• Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Education & Experience Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:

• Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services field), or another related behavioral health field.


• Bachelor's Degree in one of the disciplines listed above plus one (1) year of clinical experience.


• Associate's Degree in one of the disciplines listed above plus two (2) years of clinical experience.


• Full certification as an addictions counselor by a statewide certification body that is a member of a national certification body, or certification by another state's substance abuse counseling certification board.


• Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse (RN) with a degree from an accredited school of nursing and one (1) year of counseling experience.


• Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Physician.

Preferred Skills & Qualities

• Experience with clinical skills in mental health, substance use, or co‑occurring disorder treatment


• Experience with professional, ethical approaches to client care and teamwork


• Knowledge of HIPAA, state licensing regulations, and CARF standards


• Ability to manage crises calmly and appropriately


• Ability to problem‑solving and use critical‑thinking abilities


• Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and reliable in a fast‑paced clinical environment


• Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills
