Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in New York, NY is seeking a Cost Manager to provide cost management services for a major construction project. You will forecast costs, validate invoices, and report to senior staff while coordinating procurement and change management.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Construction or Quantity Surveying and at least four years of relevant experience; professional registration with RICS or AACE is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying or related field; four years relevant experience.
  • Must be highly articulate with clear, analytical problem-solving and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; IT proficient (Internet, Intranet, Windows, Acrobat, Office, MS Project).
  • Must be a member of RICS or AACE or similar professional body.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cost management services including forecast, reporting, and change management.
  • Review invoices and change orders per client approval process.
  • Oversee procurement for construction and engineering services; prepare RFPs and bid analyses.
  • Prepare and issue periodic cost reports to senior technical staff.
  • Carry out earned value analysis and value engineering on a periodic basis.
  • Review close-out administration to ensure contractual requirements are met.
  • Supervise junior staff and interface with clients and technical teams.

Job Description Overview

We are seeking a Cost Manager to join our team in New York, NY. Your role Provides cost management services including invoice validation, cost forecasting and reporting, change management, close out administration, procurement management, earned value and value engineering. Prepares and issues periodic cost reports to senior technical staff. Reviews the cash flow prepared by junior technical staff and issues to senior technical staff. With minimal supervision, reviews all change orders in accordance with the client’s approval process. Reviews all invoices for the project and ensures that junior technical staff codes the invoices where applicable and forwards them to the client’s accounts payable department. With minimal supervision, provides procurement services for the client, where applicable, for construction and engineering services, including preparing RFP and bid analysis. Where applicable, overviews and reports to the client on contractor buyout of subcontract bid packages. Attends the bi-weekly cost meetings to review procurement status and change order status with the contractors and engineering teams. With minimal supervision, provides cost information on value engineering analysis. With minimal supervision, carries out an earned value analysis of the project on a periodic basis. Reviews the contractors close out administration and ensures that they meet their contractual requirements. Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary. Complexity (Variety or uniqueness of tasks; relative difficulty or importance of work performed; size of unit supported, etc.): Work involves conventional practice but may include a variety of complex features. Decision-making : Most assignments are performed independently. Makes decisions on technical problems and methods. Receives approval on proposed plans for projects and general direction as to results expected or on unusual problems. Work direction given to others : Supervises, gives work direction to, and/or reviews the work of junior technical staff and/or others who assist in specific assignments. Internal contacts : Interfaces with senior technical staff and technical managers. External contacts : Routinely interfaces with clients.

About you

Education and experience : Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying or a related field, plus four years relevant experience. Special skills: Must be highly articulate, have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision making abilities. Must have excellent communication and presentation skills. Must thoroughly understand and utilize Information Technology in the performance of work including Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project. Professional registrations: Must be a member of RICS or AACE or another relevant professional body.

Expected compensation range

Expected compensation range is between $95,000 - $125,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
