Job description

System One is seeking to hire Cost Estimator for a long-term contract opportunity, with a remote work model.

The Cost Estimator will support the cost tracking, status reporting, performance analysis, forecasting and project baseline change control. The Cost Estimator will also support project budget owners across the project(s) with direct reporting to the Cost Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) Compliance – Ensure 100% adherence to EVMS principles and project management best practices in cost tracking and reporting.
  • Timeliness of Month-End Reporting – Complete and submit Earned Value reports (BCWS, BCWP, ACWP, SPI, CPI, EAC, BAC, VAC) within the defined reporting period (e.g., within five business days of month-end).
  • Accuracy of Cost Estimates – Maintain variance of less than ±5% between forecasted Estimate to Complete (ETC) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) versus actual project costs.
  • Cost Data Accuracy – Ensure that 100% of cost estimates are based on current and verified pricing data from databases, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation – Identify and document all high-risk cost and schedule issues with at least one recommended mitigation strategy per issue in monthly risk assessments.
  • Project Status Reporting – Deliver Monthly Project Status Reports on time with comprehensive scope, schedule, budget, and risk insights, ensuring all reports meet quality standards.
  • Schedule Accuracy and Maintenance – Maintain an up-to-date, resource-loaded master project schedule in Microsoft Project, ensuring that at least 95% of schedule updates are accurate and published on time.
  • Change Control Effectiveness – Process all baseline budget, scope, or schedule changes exceeding established thresholds within the required timeframe and maintain an approval rate of at least 90% for proposed changes.
Ideal Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field, or equivalent project controls experience.
  • 5-10 years experienced on large development projects or Department of Energy (DOE) type projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio) and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Ability to adapt to and rapidly learn new software and processes. Demonstrated experience learning and becoming proficient with new software may be acceptable in lieu of specific software experience.
  • Demonstrated affinity for understanding key objective and intent and then working with stakeholders and software tools to improve a process or system to make it more efficient.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally, build positive working relationships, and effectively identify and resolve problems.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
