Job summary

Mattel, Inc. is seeking a Cost Engineer located at our El Segundo, CA campus to drive cost analysis, modeling, and value engineering across the product development lifecycle. You will work with Product Development, Design, Sourcing, Finance, and Manufacturing to meet cost targets while maintaining quality and consumer value.

You will develop scalable costing methodologies, publish cost data at milestones, and identify opportunities for cost reduction with suppliers and manufacturing partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of cost engineering, product development, manufacturing, sourcing, or related experience.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in product costing, BOM analysis, and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of plastics, injection molding, tooling, and consumer product manufacturing preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to identify cost drivers, synthesize insights, and communicate recommendations.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Growth mindset: curious, adaptable, and improvement-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain product cost estimates from concept through production.
• Prepare cost analyses to support design decisions, supplier negotiations, and cost reductions.
• Evaluate costs of product, tooling, packaging, and manufacturing for optimization opportunities.
• Collaborate with Product Development and Design to balance cost, quality, and performance.
• Participate in VA/VE activities to achieve target costs across products.
