Job summary

Mattel is seeking a focused, technical engineer to drive product innovation and translate new concepts into manufacturable solutions. You will mentor junior engineers, support early-stage concept feasibility, and help guide optimal engineering practices across the development lifecycle.

You will contribute to defining product function, creating technical specs, and building the engineering BOM while collaborating with design, PMs, and operations to meet safety and quality targets.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in an Engineering discipline preferred or equivalent work experience.
• 0-2 years of experience in the toys or consumer goods industry preferred.
• Fundamental understanding of common engineering principles and practices.
• General knowledge of plastic production processes and assembly techniques for plastic products.
• Knowledge of materials such as textiles and plastics and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge and experience in CAD software like SolidWorks or Creo.
• Understanding of statistics and probabilities.
• Demonstrated growth mindset with curiosity and learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide feedback to design and PMs during initial concept stages to determine feasibility of planned toy.
• Assist with development of new mechanisms and breadboard models as needed.

The Opportunity:

This position is a focused, technical engineering role responsible for supporting and helping to drive technical product innovation and the development of creative new product concepts into manufacturable solutions. This position also provides project support to more senior engineers acting as mentors to help gain experience. This position serves as focal point for driving technical engineering solutions on new product concepts to ensure financial targets, schedule, and adherence to specified safety and quality standards. The position also drives Brand level value engineering and advanced product quality planning. The job role also serves as a technical engineering liaison with Operations and collaborates with the cross functional New Product Development Team to support efficient flow of new product concepts through the new product development lifecycles. This job also supports team level corrective action programs administered by CPI.

What Your Impact Will Be:

• Provides feedback to design & PMs during initial concept stages to determine feasibility of planned toy.
• Assists with the development of new mechanisms to achieve toy functionality goals. Assists with the creation of breadboard models as and when needed.
• Assists in the creation of engineering BOM.
• Assists in translating design vision for toy into technical specs that can be passed on to development houses, tooling, and plants.
• Assists in the definition of product function through Functional Spec.
• Performs standardized engineering tasks guided by instructions and guidelines.
• Emphasis on learning to incorporate Mattel's processes, procedures and practices with knowledge acquired through formal education or professional experience.
• Primarily works on products in established pathway.
• Communicate and cooperate with cross-functional partners.

What We’re Looking For:

• BA/BS degree in an Engineering discipline preferred or equivalent work experience.
• 0-2 years of experience in the toys or consumer goods industry preferred.
• Fundamental understanding of common Engineering principles and practices.
• General knowledge of plastic production processes and assembly techniques for plastic products.
• Somewhat diversified procedures and specialized standards guide their thinking.
• Knowledge of various Raw materials; textiles, plastics, etc., in addition to the Manufacturing Process.
• Knowledge and experience in CAD Software (like SolidWorks or Creo).
• Understanding of Statistics and probabilities.
• Demonstrated agrowth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

The pay range for this position is between $71,000 and $82,000 annual.
