Job summary

Rootbound Partners is seeking an experienced cost accounting leader for a private manufacturing client in Texas. The role focuses on GAAP-compliant general ledger management, cost accounting ownership (BOM, routing, cost versions), and close process ownership across multiple entities.

You will partner with Operations to analyze variances, improve cost visibility, and support audits and compliance while driving process improvements and KPI tracking. Growth into a Controller role is available.

Qualifications

• 5+ years cost accounting experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge including accruals and inventory accounting.
• Experience with ERP systems in manufacturing.
• Advanced Excel skills and data analysis ability.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate insights clearly.
• Experience supporting audits and compliance processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead general ledger accounting and maintain GAAP-compliant records.
• Manage full close process: journal entries, reconciliations, month/quarter/year-end close.
• Own cost accounting: BOM, routing roll-ups, cost versions, cost rolls.
• Maintain overhead rates and perform variance analysis across labor/materials/overhead.
• Oversee WIP, finished goods, and COGS inventory accounting.
• Enforce accruals and proper revenue/expense matching, including payroll and reserves.
• Partner with Operations to analyze variances and improve cost accuracy.
• Support audits, tax filings, and overall compliance.
• Establish and monitor KPIs for close timelines, inventory reconciliation, cost accuracy.
• Identify/process improvements across accounting workflows and ERP usage.
• Contribute to audit and banking-related activities and process enhancements.

What You’ll Do

• Lead general ledger accounting and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP
• Manage the full close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month, quarter, and year-end close
• Own cost accounting, including BOM and routing roll-ups, cost versions, and cost rolls
• Maintain overhead rates and provide variance analysis across labor, materials, and overhead
• Manage WIP, finished goods, and COGS flow to ensure accurate inventory accounting
• Enforce accruals and proper matching of revenue and expenses, including payroll, commissions, and reserves
• Partner closely with Operations to analyze variances and improve cost accuracy
• Support audits, tax filings, and overall compliance
• Establish and monitor KPIs related to close timelines, inventory reconciliation, and cost accuracy
• Identify and implement process improvements across accounting workflows and ERP utilization
• Contribute to audit and banking-related activities and support ongoing process enhancements

What You Bring

• At least 5+ years of cost accounting experience
• Strong cost accounting experience, including inventory, BOM, and variance analysis
• Solid understanding of GAAP, including accruals, revenue recognition, and inventory accounting
• Experience working within an ERP system, ideally in a manufacturing environment
• Advanced Excel skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally with operations and communicate financial insights clearly
• Experience supporting audits and compliance processes
• Independent, detail-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
• Ability to step into existing processes, understand them quickly, and improve them over time
