Job summary

Hachette Book Group is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager to support the Finance team and the Director of Inventory. You will manage daily and monthly accounting for inventory, review valuations, and lead a staff of three staff accountants.

Based in New York or Boston, the role is hybrid with three on-site days. The ideal candidate has a BA in Accounting, 3–5 years in cost accounting, Oracle Cloud experience, ERP implementation, and strong Excel skills.

  • BA in Accounting with 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in cost accounting.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Application.
  • Experience with ERP implementation.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze and create all related accounting with respect to Inventory Assets (WIP, Paper, etc.).
  • Responsible for the accuracy of HBG’s inventory including valuation and quantity.
  • Examine and authorize payment of all production invoices.
  • Prepare various month-end reports and analyses.
  • Participate in the creation of inventory-related and other special projects on an as-needed basis.
  • Collaboration with internal IT department to enhance current system.
  • Assist with quarterly audits.
  • Manage a team of Staff accountants.

Hachette Book Group is seeking a talented Cost Accounting Manager to support our Finance team! This position will support the Director of Inventory with daily and monthly work requirements of the accounting department by preparing, reconciling, reviewing, and communicating accounting information. Ideal candite will have IT/system knowledge and or ERP implementation along with an accounting background. This person will have a team of three staff accountants to manage.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Review, analyze and create all related accounting with respect to Inventory Assets (WIP, Paper, etc.).
  • Responsible for the accuracy of HBG’s inventory including valuation and quantity
  • Examine and authorize payment of all production invoices.
  • Prepare various month-end reports and analyses.
  • Participate in the creation of inventory-related and other special projects on an as‑needed basis
  • Collaboration with internal I.T. department to enhance current system
  • Curious mindset to fully understand the inner workings of the Department.
  • Assist with quarterly Audits
  • Manage a team of Staff accountants
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Proficiency in Excel is required.

This role is based in our New York office or Boston, MA office. Employees are expected to work on-site three days per week in accordance with our hybrid work model. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the office.

The compensation for this position is $90,000-$100,000 (New York Office) or $80,000-$90,000 (Boston Office). Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location.
