Job description

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail‑oriented Cost Accountant to support our North American business, including U.S. and Canadian operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy of COGS, inventory valuation, landed cost, margin analysis, and month‑end closing activities across multiple warehouses and 3PL partners. Attention to detail, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of accounting principles are essential for success in this role.

The right candidate must have excellent organizational skills and be able to communicate professionally with all levels of management, customers, suppliers, and staff. Additionally, they must maintain the highest professional and ethical standards.

Position Information
  • Process and verify high volumes of supplier trade invoices, ensuring accurate three‑way matching between purchase orders, goods receipts, and invoices.
  • Ensure proper GL coding and cost center allocation for all invoices and inventory‑related charges.
  • Maintain accurate vendor master data and monitor aging reports while reconciling vendor statements and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assist with preparing and executing supplier payment runs, including timely resolution of invoice issues.
  • Prepare monthly accrual journal entries, reconciliations, and COGS corrections, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
  • Review, validate, and reconcile all inventory‑related invoices, including freight, duty, brokerage, surcharges, and other landed cost components.
  • Maintain and update standard costing systems and allocate landed costs appropriately across product lines.
  • Monitor and analyze cost variances, including duty, freight, and trucking, investigate deviations, and document corrective action plans.
  • Oversee inventory valuation for in‑transit and finished goods and reconcile daily and monthly inventory movements, returns, write‑offs, and adjustments.
  • Support physical inventory counts, inventory reconciliation efforts, and cross‑functional investigations of discrepancies with Supply Chain and brokers, including CBP/CBSA corrections.
  • Perform product costing, margin analysis, and profitability reporting for management and Sales teams.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and month‑end financial reporting, including preparation of performance analytics and key metrics.
  • Develop and maintain cost and margin analysis reporting and enhance costing workflows, inventory processes, and automation opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, SOPs, audit recommendations, and GAAP standards.
  • Provide documentation and analysis for internal and external audits.
  • Participate in system enhancement initiatives, including landed cost module improvements, ERP workflows, and Power BI reporting integration.
  • Support financial reporting to internal stakeholders and participate in special projects, managing project plans and deliverables as assigned.
Education and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of AP/Cost Accounting experience, preferably in consumer goods industry (retail and wholesale sector).
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data modeling). Data analytics certificates/experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory accounting
  • Experience with standard costing and variance analysis
  • Experience with enterprise level software required. Microsoft Business Central/MS GP experience a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and self‑motivation.
