Job summary

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College seeks an Instructor in Cosmetology to deliver courses in Spa Therapies and Operations and advise students pursuing the Associate of Cosmetology. This full-time, 9-month position requires maintaining curriculum, applying standards, and contributing to accreditation and program reviews.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate’s degree in Cosmetology, two years of cosmetology experience, and the NC Board Cosmetologist licenses.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Cosmetology (must complete within one year of hire)
• Two years of full-time or equivalent work experience as a cosmetologist
• NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Cosmetologist License
• NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Cosmetologist Teacher License

Responsibilities

• Maintains mastery of subject matter.
• Develops and/or teaches courses for which the appropriate credential is held.
• Teaches in various formats, various locations, and via various delivery methods.
• Adheres to policies, procedures, expectations, and practices of the College, the department, and discipline.
• Communicates clearly with students, other faculty, and staff.
• Contributes to a safe and secure campus environment.
• Enforces Code of Classroom Conduct and Code of Student Conduct.
• Assists with program reviews, program accreditation, and SACSCOC accreditation as appropriate.
• Attends meetings and events and actively participate on committees and taskforces.
• Attends the annual commencement ceremony.
• Upholds the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
• Supports diversity in all aspects.
• Establishes or upholds learning outcomes that are relevant and meaningful.
• Evaluates student progress in a fair, consistent, and timely manner.
• Develops, prepares, and/or delivers all levels of curriculum courses.
• Completes required professional development annually.
• Maintains knowledge of and compliance with the NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners laws, rules, and expectations.
• Assists in maintaining inventory supplies for classroom and instructional needs.
• Provides oversight in clinical lab during client/guest services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
