Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Corrections Utility Plant Operator for SCI-Somerset to operate and monitor essential utility equipment across the facility.

You will oversee boiler and water systems, perform maintenance, and supervise inmate workers, ensuring safety and compliance with procedures. Starting salary is $49,010 with potential adjustments under the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.
• Veterans' preference applies where eligible.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor boilers, generators, water systems, and other utility equipment under normal and emergency conditions.
• Complete routine and non-routine maintenance, perform repairs, and keep accurate records of equipment performance.
• Test boiler water chemistry, maintain logs, and track supplies for water treatment and testing.
• Direct inmate workers, maintain safety, enforce procedures, and monitor movement and work areas.
• Record daily readings, complete required paperwork, and report concerns to supervisors.
