Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee shift personnel in a correctional setting, ensuring safety, order, and compliance with policies. You will guide staff, conduct counts, and manage inmate movement during your shift.

You will investigate complaints, provide counseling as needed, and support evaluations and disciplinary actions. Required training includes SCDC certification and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 18 months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• Certification by the SCDC training academy is required.
• Must complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security personnel on shift.
• Assist with employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling sessions.
• Lead shift briefings with officers.
• Remain familiar with shift activities and inform subordinates of changes affecting inmates and operations.
• Conduct routine and non‑routine security checks of work areas and living area units.
• Conduct formal and non‑formal counts.
• Investigate inmate complaints and take appropriate action; instruct and counsel inmates as required.
• Monitor inmate movement within the institution.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education
