Job summary

State of Hawaiʻi is recruiting for a Recreation Program Coordinator to plan, organize, and evaluate a recreation program for a corrections area. You will conduct a variety of recreational activities and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field, plus minimum coursework in relevant subjects; six months of general experience; and one year in a correctional setting. PREA compliance and accommodations are noted.

Qualifications

• Education: a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, recreational therapy, leisure education, psychology, corrections, sociology, human development or other recreational or behavioral science field.
• Minimum 12 semester credit hours in courses such as community recreation, physical fitness, abnormal psychology, counseling, behavior management, criminal justice, human personality and behavior.
• General Experience: six months in an organized athletic/recreation program with professional planning and coordination.
• Specialized Experience: one year in recreation programs in a correctional setting.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates a recreation program for an assigned corrections work area.
• Conducts varied and comprehensive recreational activities and performs other duties as assigned.
