Job summary

The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Downtown Hawaii is seeking a Corrections Program Specialist I to perform program planning, evaluation, and analysis, and to assist in developing policies, plans, and budgets for the statewide corrections program.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology, criminology, penology, or related behavioral science with research/stats coursework, plus relevant experience in corrections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a MAJOR in sociology, psychology, criminology, penology or other related behavioral science which included coursework in research or statistics.
  • Excess General or Specialized Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis; must be comparable in scope and quality.
  • Education/experience must include basic theories of human behavior, counseling, corrections concepts, and research methods or statistics.
  • Two and a half years of progressively responsible professional counseling or related social services work in corrections or related fields.
  • At least six months of general experience showing aptitude for full-time program/staff specialist work in corrections.
  • Driver's license required for positions with this requirement; substitution rules apply.

Responsibilities

  • Perform program planning, evaluation, and analysis studies; participate in developing program plans, policies, and standards for the statewide corrections program.
  • Coordinate operating and CIP budgets and related financial documents and organizational packages.
  • Review and recommend improvements in management, organization, staffing, and related concerns within corrections.
  • Provide staff services to management by evaluating and advising on program development and performance.

Bachelor's degree in sociology/psychology/criminology/penology or related behavioral science with coursework in research or statistics
