Job summary

West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking a Corrections Program Specialist for Inmate Records at Pruntytown Correctional Center and Jail. Qualifications

• Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in corrections, probation/parole, law enforcement, social work, recreation, religion or related behavioral or social science fields.
• Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral or social science field may substitute for the required experience at the rate of fifteen (15) semester hours of training for every one (1) year of experience.
• Additional full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience described above may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of training for every thirty (30) semester hours of experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Inmate Records at Pruntytown Correctional Center and Jail.
• Manage transfer of legal files and detainers; follow up on pending charges.
• Update the Offender Information System (OIS) with pertinent information.
• Verify release eligibility to prevent release errors.
• Work a mandatory 8-hour security shift as needed.

Job description

All Corrections Program Specialists positions are specialized positions and can be utilized in a variety of areas within the facility such as Inmate records, Inmate employment, Inmate Movement, Inmate Reentry and the American Corrections Association office (ACA Compliance). These positions serve as a staff specialist or a technical assistant role in the area of assignment to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and all West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation Policy Directives, Institutional Operating Procedures, Post Orders, etc.

This particular position is responsible for Inmate Records at Pruntytown Correctional Center and Jail. It is a supervisory position to one (1) Office Operations Associate and one (1) Office Operations Assistant The inmate records department handles the first phase of the intake process of inmates transferred from Regional Jails. This position oversees the transfer of legal files, follow-up for detainers and pending charges (both felony and misdemeanor), updating the Offender Information System (OIS) with pertinent information, and ensuring complete follow-through, including first review to release inmates and first line in verifying inmates are eligible for release to prevent release errors. It is also required to work on a 8-hour mandatory security shift as needed.

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral or social science field.

OR

Substitution: Additional full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as described below may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of training for every thirty (30) semester hours of experience.

AND

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in corrections, probation/parole, law enforcement, social work, recreation, religion or related behavioral or social science fields.

OR
