The South Dakota Department of Corrections seeks a full-time Corrections Officer for the Rapid City Minimum Center. This role oversees inmate safety, enforces protocols, and supports daily facility operations.

Officers work 12-hour shifts (6am–6pm or 6pm–6am), with every-other weekend and some holidays. Training is provided; no prior experience required. Benefits include health insurance options, holidays, and retirement plans.

Formación

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Valid Driver’s License required
• High school diploma or GED
• Abuse and neglect screening may be required
• Excellent English communication skills required

Responsabilidades

• Maintain custody of inmates and enforce facility procedures to ensure safety and security.
• Supervise inmates at posts such as control rooms, cell halls, visit rooms, and recreation areas.
• Prepare incident reports and conduct inmate counts; maintain logs.
• Escort and transport inmates to appointments and manage entry/exit points.
• Respond to crises; perform searches and ensure proper sanitation and order.
