Job summary

South Dakota Department of Corrections in Sioux Falls offers a full-time Corrections Officer position with a shift pattern of twelve hours, including weekends and some holidays. The role pays $25.60–$30.00 per hour and requires no prior education or experience.

New officers receive training across all job aspects, uniforms are provided, and Class B retirement with 8% matching contributions is available. Applicants must be 18+ with a valid license and pass screenings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid Driver’s License.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must pass abuse/neglect screening.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control access to the facility.
• Man an armed post (annual firearms certification).
• Escort and transport offenders in state vehicles, while armed.
• Inspect inmate mail and facility, cells for health, safety and sanitation.
• Communicate pertinent information to coworkers and supervisors.
