Job summary

The Alabama Department of Corrections is hiring Correctional Officer Trainees at St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville, Alabama. This entry-level, full-time role begins at $28/hour with full state benefits and retirement.

You will oversee inmate custody, transport, and supervision, participate in safety checks, and complete training during a 10-week ADOC program. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications including a high school diploma or GED and being 19 or older.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; copy during hiring.
• Applicants must be 19 years of age or older.
• BAT certification or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university required.

Responsibilities

• Stands watch to control movement of inmates.
• Supervises groups of inmates on work details; checks inmates in and out.
• Inspects quarters for safety and contraband; searches inmates and visitors.
• Maintains alert and reports unusual conditions; inspects security equipment.
• Makes inmate counts and checks supervised individuals.
• Completes reports on progress, behavior and incidents.
• Drives transfer vehicle; maintains safety equipment.
• Explains rules and services to inmates; assists with personal problems and opportunities.
• Observes inmate behavior and submits evaluations.
• Instructs inmates in hygiene, discipline and etiquette.
