Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Corrections Officer Trainee to join the Department of Corrections in a state facility. This role provides hands-on training and support as you learn safety and order maintenance, with opportunities to build essential security and counseling skills for inmates and staff.

You will work a 40-hour week in all areas of the institution, with overtime as required and no telework option.

Qualifications

• PA residency requirement is waived for this title.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Background check and CJIS compliance required.
• Medical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug screening required.

Responsibilities

• Inmate contact with inmates and visitors in direct and indirect situations.
• Maintain security by monitoring inmate movement and activities across cellblocks and housing units.
• Perform rounds, head counts, security checks, and report unusual situations to a Corrections Officer.
• Work a 40-hour week with shifts determined; may include weekends and holidays; no telework option.
• Prepare detailed reports and respond quickly and safely to emergencies.
