Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Officer Trainee for the State Correctional Institution Greene. This entry‑level role provides hands‑on training and steady support to learn safety and order inside a state facility.

You will participate in formalized instruction, gain experience in custody and counseling practices, and rotate through inmate contact, security, and reporting duties as you progress.

Qualifications

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Interact with inmates and visitors in direct and indirect situations.
• Monitor inmate movement and activities to maintain security.
• Make rounds, conduct head counts, and report unusual situations.
• Full-time schedule with 40 hours/week, shifts to be determined, possible weekends/holidays.
• Participate in formalized instruction in sociology, psychology, court procedures, and custodial duties.
• Write and complete detailed reports.
• Wear employer-provided uniforms.
