Job summary

City of Yakima’s Police Department is seeking a full-time Corrections Officer to join the jail operations in Yakima, Washington. You will supervise detainees, manage booking records, and support facility safety under the Police Department.

Minimum requirements include being 20 years of age, U.S. citizen or permanent resident, English proficiency, and a high school diploma or equivalent; lateral transfers have additional certifications and experience requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be 20 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
• Must have a good command of English, both written and verbal.
• High school diploma or equivalent required for entry; additional WA CJ training for lateral transfers.

Responsibilities

• Receive detainees and conduct body searches; maintain control with appropriate force.
• Supervise detainee work crews and monitor facility operations.
• Escort, transport and guard detainees in court, hospital, and work sites; supervise maintenance tasks.
• Maintain records of booking, detention and release; operate records management system.
