Job summary

The incumbent works under the direction of a Sergeant or designee, setting and conveying expectations for the incarcerated population as governed by SIM. Responsible for managing and regulating offender behavior, assessing risk, ensuring basic needs, and guiding productive activity.

Duties include conducting security and health inspections, supervising inmates, preparing reports, maintaining professional relationships with staff, officials, and the public, and enforcing rules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
• Work experience in a correctional facility or criminal justice setting and/or providing security preferred.
• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Compliance with random drug testing required.
• Valid driver's license at hire and throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine security and health inspections, detect contraband or hazards, report damage or dangers, and monitor for security breaches.
• Supervise inmates and unit activities, maintain positive relations with inmates and staff, and coach behavior expectations.
• Prepare reports and written materials; respond to requests and concerns from staff, officials, and the public.

Education
