An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: high school degree, GED or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or more. Completion of Corrections Course through OPOTA or qualified technical school is not a requirement to apply.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
Certified as a Corrections Officer from the State of Ohio is not a requirement to apply. A valid State motor vehicle operator's license is required.
Under general supervision, controls prisoner behavior to maintain security within the Zanesville City Jail.
Maintains jail security, monitors and controls prisoners, supervises activities, controls and restrains inmates, reports incidents, conducts head counts, operates control boards, books inmates, issues medications, and maintains records. Responds to inmate needs, supervises work details, and handles inmate problems within authority limits. Performs booking procedures, releases inmates, and supervises inmate activities.

Inmate and arrest records, medical and psychological information.
Good conditions with occasional exposure to violence, bodily fluids, and health risks.
Walking, physical control, communication, and hearing requirements. Reasonable accommodations may be needed for disabilities.
Knowledge of criminal justice and correctional procedures. Ability to exercise sound judgment, communicate effectively, develop relationships, control prisoners, and perform first aid and self-defense. Skill in record-keeping, incident reporting, and observation.
Must be 18+, provide a driver’s license, and upload relevant documents. Applicants must pass written and physical exams, background checks, polygraph, psychological, and drug screening. Military veterans may receive additional exam credit.
