Job description

Under the direct supervision of the inmate drug testing Sergeant, the incumbent will conduct random and targeted drug testing for the South Carolina Department of Corrections in accordance with the agency's drug testing policy.

Responsibilities include updating drug test results into the SCDC Mainframe system through CRT entry, maintaining drug testing supply inventory, and distributing supply orders as directed. The role also involves training and certifying Institutional drug testing officers.

Performs other security-related duties as required.

The incumbent will travel daily to various institutions and assigned sites throughout the state.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Tattoos must not be offensive, gang-related, or visibly located on the face or head. Tattoos on the neck will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Cannot have been convicted of a crime with a maximum allowable sentence of one year or more, or a fine of $1,000 or more.
  • Must pass a physical exam administered by SCDC.
  • Must successfully complete the Correctional Officer Basic Certification Course within the first 6 months of employment.

Certification as a Drug Testing Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of starting the position.
