Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent and the direct supervision of the Sergeant or Corporal, you will be responsible for providing care, custody, and control of inmates for Carroll County Department of Corrections in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Primary Functions

• Supervise all inmate activities to ensure a safe and secure environment inside and outside the facilities.
• Process incoming inmates, complete intake paperwork, issue clothing and toilet articles, take fingerprints and photos, and advise inmates on facility rules.
• Maintain control room logs.
• Answer phones and receive visitors.
• Inspect cells, dayrooms, kitchen, dining, visiting areas for security breaches.
• Transport inmates inside and outside the facility.
• Conduct inmate counts.
• Maintain inmate order, discipline, safety, and security.
• Supervise inmate programs as requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates must demonstrate understanding of correctional policies, establish effective relationships with staff, inmates, and the public, perform diversified duties with sound judgment, communicate effectively, analyze data, and meet physical requirements, including passing agility tests and exerting force as needed.

Qualifications/Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of correctional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating required skills and abilities.

Licensure

Certified Correctional Officer by the New Hampshire Association of Counties or another certifying authority, or ability to obtain certification upon hire.

Retirement

Group II with New Hampshire Retirement System.
