Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Corrections is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lunenburg Correctional Center to provide evidence-based nursing care under RN direction.

You will screen for sick calls, administer medications, document medical records, and coordinate with security and treatment staff. A strong commitment to correctional nursing and ongoing certification is required.

A $3,500 sign-on bonus or up to $10K student loan repayment may be available for eligible new hires.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited nursing program.
• Virginia LPN license or multi-state compact required.
• Working knowledge of practical/general nursing care.
• Ability to document and follow providers’ orders in medical records.

Responsibilities

• Screen sick calls and administer medications.
• Provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records and communicate with staff.
• Collaborate with security and treatment staff to plan care.
• Pursue ongoing education/certification in correctional nursing.
