Job summary
Virginia Department of Corrections seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to join Sussex State Prison on a full-time basis. You will provide evidence-based nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, screen for sick calls, administer medications, and maintain medical records.
The role requires an accredited nursing program graduate with a Virginia LPN license and current BLS. A $3,500 sign-on bonus or up to $10,000 student loan repayment may be available for eligible new hires.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Must possess Virginia LPN license (unrestricted) or multi-state compact license.
- Knowledge of practical/general nursing care principles and techniques.
- Ability to document accurately and follow provider orders.
- BLS certification required upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based nursing care under supervision.
- Screen sick calls, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support.
- Maintain communication with security and treatment staff to plan treatment.
- Document all pertinent information in medical records.
- Be available to work varied hours/locations to meet institutional needs.
