Job summary

Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola, LA seeks a Corrections Lieutenant, a key leadership role ensuring secure operations and strong staff relations. This promotional opportunity targets current LA Department of Corrections employees with permanent status.

Responsibilities include training dorm officers, enforcing post orders and departmental regulations, and overseeing counts and post relief to maintain safety and order in a 24-hour facility.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following.
• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
• One year of experience in any field; OR
• Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

Responsibilities

• Train Dorm Officers and Officers in all assigned areas in regards to inmate posted policies, employee post orders and Department Regulations and Institutional Policies.
• Provide training in the proper usage of security equipment such as key control, beeper, restraints, etc. and how to perform a proper shakedown of inmates and inmate’s property including bed areas and dorm areas.
• Supervise and train subordinates on proper count procedure and assist/perform counts at designated times.
• Responsible for ensuring that all posts in area of supervision have been relieved and that an officer is present at each post.
