The Alabama Department of Corrections seeks a Food Service Specialist to oversee centralized food service across state institutions. You will monitor standards, policies, and practices with the food service vendor and ensure safe, nutritious meals for inmates.

Key duties include inspections, reporting, coordinating with vendors, and staff guidance to maintain food safety and contract compliance, with a starting salary between $41,268 and $64,012 depending on education and experience.

Formación

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in nutrition, institutional food service or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in planning and supervising large-scale food service operations.
• Must possess Serve Safe Certification or obtain one prior to completion of probationary period.

Responsabilidades

• Communicates with food service provider management, Wardens, public, and other departments to relay information and ensure actions are taken.
• Conducts monthly inspections to ensure sanitation, proper temperatures, and proper use of culinary equipment.
• Inspects kitchens and equipment for safety and reports malfunctions to maintenance or admin.
• Prepares reports summaring visits and collaborates with vendors to improve challenges.
• Performs weekly check-ins with food service managers to uphold proper operation and plan improvements.
• Monitors staffing to ensure adequate kitchen operations.
• Monitors serving portions and portion control.
• Reviews documents within the food service contract for compliance.
• Provides guidance to staff on food safety and contract guidelines.
