Job summary

The Alabama Department of Corrections seeks a Food Service Specialist to oversee centralized food service operations within the agency's program. You will collaborate with the food service vendor to ensure standards, policies, and practices are met, and to monitor inmate food service delivery for quality and safety.

Starting salary ranges from $41,268 to $64,012, with placement based on education, experience, or a combination of both.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of institutional food service management, nutrition values, and inventory controls.
• Understanding of health, sanitation, and safety requirements for food handling.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with food service provider management and agency staff to ensure information is accurately exchanged.
• Conduct planned and unplanned inspections to ensure sanitation, proper temperatures, equipment use, and contract compliance.
• Inspect kitchens and equipment, report malfunctions, and coordinate with maintenance staff.
