Job summary

County Jail is seeking a Control Room Operator to monitor and control access to secure jail facilities. The role requires evaluating security situations, managing alarm systems, and coordinating emergency responses to protect staff and inmates.

Applicants must have 2+ years of related experience, pass fingerprint-based background checks, RAP Back enrollment, and a mandatory drug test. The position involves standing by in a secure environment with routine observation duties.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of directly related experience (e.g., Law Enforcement, Facility Protection, Security, Dispatch, Corrections, Loss Prevention, Video Surveillance, Call Center).
• Must pass a background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in RAP Back program per County HR policy.
• Must pass a mandatory drug test before starting; mandatory alcohol and drug testing; may be tested post-accident or on reasonable suspicion.

Responsibilities

• Controls employee, prisoner, visitor, and volunteer access to secure doors and areas.
• Remotely monitors movement in jails and coordinates emergency responses.
• Observes prisoners in housing units and corridors; monitors perimeters and common areas.
• Responds to alarms, manages intercoms, and conducts remote lockdowns or evacuations.
• Receives and dispatches information for callouts to specialized units.
• Tests alarms, doors, and elevators; monitors electronic security systems.
• Greets visitors and staff; assists the public and compiles reports.
• Monitors cameras and records video; manages video downloads.
