Job summary

Marion County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Detention Deputy Trainee to participate in a full-time academy and in-house training designed to train in corrections/detention. Trainees work under supervision and progress through requirements to become a Certified Corrections Officer.

Responsibilities include adhering to ethics and procedures, maintaining fitness and academic progress, and performing duties as assigned during training and field activities. A two-year commitment follows selection.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 19 by graduation from the Detention Deputy Academy.
• Must obtain clearance to register as a student at The College of Central Florida.
• Pass competitive selection including medical, physical, drug screening and psychological assessments.
• Must hold a valid Florida driver license with a good driving record.
• Able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Commit to a two-year employment commitment after selection.

Responsibilities

• Abide by the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and agency procedures.
• Be alert to conditions affecting operations and propose solutions.
• Maintain professional demeanor in classroom, field training and community.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including during emergencies.
• Complete Detention Deputy Academy and Corrections Officer Academy requirements.
