Job summary

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is seeking Corrections Deputies to maintain safety and order in our detention facilities. Training is provided, with opportunities for advancement and special assignments across divisions.

Candidates must meet minimum qualifications, including age, citizenship and a clean background. The role involves handling AICs, security operations, and teamwork in a demanding public safety environment.

Qualifications

• A minimum of two years combined of full-time work/volunteer experience, military service and/or education.
• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be a United States citizen or able to obtain citizenship to attend the academy.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license by time of appointment.
• Must pass a thorough background investigation including records and references.

Responsibilities

• Book, interview, classify and process adults in custody into jail; conduct searches and manage custody releases.
• Monitor movement, supervise housing units, assist with medical services and respond to welfare checks.
• Escort individuals to court appearances, transports, and other facilities; supervise meals and activities.
• Maintain security within the institution and manage access, keys, cameras and alarms.
• Respond to emergencies, testify in court, and participate in ongoing training and special assignments.
