Job summary

Snohomish County Jail seeks a Corrections Deputy to monitor and supervise inmates in the jail, work release facility, and community corrections programs. You will conduct intakes, perform searches, enter data, and secure identification documents.

The role includes supervising housing areas, food services, movement of inmates, medical coordination, and monitoring visits, medications, and recreational activities. Entry requirements and essential testing are described in policy.

Qualifications

• No previous experience is required for entry level Corrections Deputy.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Must be at least eighteen years old; must be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrival (DACA) recipient as per RCW 41.14.100.
• Must pass job related tests.

Responsibilities

• Books inmates into the jail, work release or community corrections programs; conducts interview to determine medical, other special needs, and acceptability to book into facility; assists in entering booking information into the jail computer system; conducts personal searches; takes fingerprints and prepares for submission to AFIS, WASIC, and FBI; photographs and other identification data; releases inmates at completion of sentence.
• Supervises the activities of inmates within the jail housing areas and their movement; supervises food services; supervises inmates in cleanup and maintenance activities; verifies need and makes arrangements for medical care; monitors medications; monitors recreational, educational and visitation activities; monitors visits and interviews with authorized persons.
• Checks for outstanding warrants and criminal history using databases; monitors inmates released to and returned from programs; verifies that inmates are where they are supposed to be through documentation or phone contact; monitors electronic equipment for Home Detention.
• Supervises the preparation of inmates for transportation to courts and other inmate appointments.
• Conducts regular security checks; screens and searches visitors; conducts headcounts and searches; administers breathalyzer or urinalysis tests; may assist in operating the jail control room.
• Instructs inmates on jail rules; investigates violations; writes violation reports; participates in disciplinary proceedings; arranges transfers and maintains secure custody.
