Job summary

Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is seeking an entry level Corrections Deputy responsible for monitoring and supervising inmates in the Snohomish County Jail and associated facilities. The role includes intake, booking, medical needs assessment, and coordination with court and community corrections programs.

The position requires no prior corrections experience, but a high school diploma or GED is mandatory. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, U.S.

Qualifications

• No previous experience is required for entry level Corrections Deputy.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Candidates must be at least eighteen (18) years old at time of application, no maximum age.
• Must be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrival (DACA) recipient as per RCW 41.14.100;.

Responsibilities

• Books inmates into the jail, work release or community corrections programs; conducts interviews to determine medical and other needs; takes fingerprints and photographs for identification and submission to AFIS, WASIC, and FBI.
• Supervises inmates in jail housing areas and movement; oversees food services, cleaning, health care, medications, and recreational activities; monitors visits and communications with authorized persons.
• Checks for outstanding warrants and criminal history for community corrections; verifies locations of work release inmates and program participants; monitors electronic monitoring for Home Detention breaches.
• Prepares inmates for transportation to courts and other appointments; conducts security checks, visitor screening, headcounts and searches; administers breathalyzer or urinalysis as needed.
• Instructs inmates on jail rules; investigates rule violations; assists in disciplinary proceedings and transfers work release inmates as required.
