Job summary

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office seeks applicants for a Corrections Deputy. This sworn position provides supervision and enforces jail rules to maintain order within the facility, including work release, work crew, courthouse security, and inmate processing.

Qualifications

• Corrections Certification preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must pass a thorough background check.
• Must be free from the conviction of a crime other than a minor traffic violation.

Responsibilities

• Process inmate books/releases, fingerprints, photos, and feeding.
• Maintain order and security of inmates in the County Jail.
• Arrange inmate visits with attorneys, family and friends.
• Oversee meals, cleaning details, and clothing exchanges.
• Provide inmate exercise and shower opportunities.
• Distribute medications to inmates under nurse directions.
• Escort inmates to court and other locations as required.
• Possess excellent verbal, written and arithmetic skills to complete required reports.
