You will help inmates learn safe and effective trade skills that support facility needs and personal development. This position provides carpentry instruction and supervises inmate training through coursework and hands‑on projects. It ensures that inmates learn proper work techniques while helping complete carpentry assignments throughout the facility. As a Corrections Carpentry Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Carpentry Instruction:Teach standard methods, procedures, installation, repair, and maintenance practices of the trade
• Work Crew Oversight:Direct inmate crews on carpentry tasks and inspect completed assignments for quality
• Training Documentation:Maintain records of inmate attendance, progress, and daily work details
• Tool Control:Issue, inventory, and account for all materials and tools used in training and work assignments
• Project Planning:Determine needed materials and tools and submit purchase requests when required

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in general construction or finish carpentry; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the carpentry trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the carpentry trade.

Other Requirements

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
