Job summary

The State of North Carolina is seeking an Accounting Clerk I (S) at Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh for hands-on accounting duties within a correctional environment. You will manage offender banking, canteen, welfare expenditures, and related financial actions while coordinating with staff and the public.

This full-time role requires attention to detail, handling of sensitive financial information, and a Monday–Friday schedule from 8am to 5pm, with occasional overtime to meet business needs.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of general accounting practices.
• Experience using spreadsheet software for financial records.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control and accountability of the offender banking system, including writing checks and daily deposits.
• Process offender welfare expenditures and related accounting actions.
• Handle weekly offender money orders and monitor service club balances.
• Maintain offender canteen system controls and prepare monthly reports.
• Research and respond to offender grievances related to finances.
• Communicate effectively with staff, the public, and offenders.
• Serve as back-up in the Accounting Department and cross-train in AP/AR.
