Job summary

Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh is seeking an Accounting Clerk I to support the Accounting Department with offender banking, canteen oversight, and welfare expenditure processing. The role emphasizes accuracy and compliance in a correctional setting.

The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, with potential overtime to meet business needs. Proficiency in Excel and general accounting knowledge are preferred and valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic knowledge of general accounting is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining control and accountability of the offender banking system, writing checks and daily bank deposits.
• Processing accounting actions for offender welfare expenditures.
• Processing weekly offender money orders and monitoring service club balances.
• Maintaining control and accountability of the offender canteen system, including monthly Canteen Reports.
• Researching and responding to offender grievances.
• Communicating and working with staff at all levels, the general public and the offender population.
• Serving as back up in accounting and cross-training in accounts payable/receivable in NCFS and NC E-Procurement.
