Job summary

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures for inmate patients and employees injured in TDCJ-ID activities.
• Render dental judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit.
• Directly supervise 2–4 dental hygienists in the unit dental services.
• Work under general direction of the Regional Dental Director with latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment.

Job description

Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures of inmate patients and employees injured as a result of TDCJ-ID activities. Insures that appropriate dental care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion. Renders dental judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit. Works under general direction of the Regional Dental Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Directly supervises 2-4 dental hygienists in the unit dental services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications Current license to practice dentistry by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners required. Current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate required.
