About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

This position is located at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Pasquotank Correctional In situation is a Close/Minimum facility housing male inmates.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The main purpose of this position is to administer and manage institutional training for all certified and non-certified staff to ensure compliance with policy to include re-certification for certified personnel and certification of new employees.
  • Duties include planning and development of training calendars and lesson plans; assessment and identification of training needs; notifications and monitoring of training delivered; coordination and conducting training classes; documentation and record-keeping for all training activities to include entering training into the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • This position also conducts New Hire Orientation Training for all newly hired staff to ensure new staff are oriented to DPS policy and procedures.
  • This position must work well with staff as well as other training professionals within NCDAC and the Community College System.
  • This position serves as a General Instructor and be willing to obtain specialized training certifications as defined by NCDAC Policy and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • This position will report directly to the Administrative Services Manager.

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Salary Range

$41,206.00-$72,113.00

About The Division of Institutions

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Criminal Justice Certified Positions

MUST be certified through the NC Dept. of Justice - Criminal Justice Standards Division. Correctional & Probation/Parole Officer Certification.
