Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction seeks a Correctional Sergeant III (S) at Scotland Correctional Institution in Laurinburg to supervise subordinate officers and manage custody and welfare of male offenders across minimum, medium, and close custody levels. The role requires 24/7 staffing coverage and strong leadership in a state prison setting.

Candidates must meet mandatory certification eligibility, pass background checks, drug screenings, and medical/psychological evaluations.

Qualifications

• Meets Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Produce a negative drug screening result.
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
• Possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
• Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
• Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
• Performing various duty assignments with the defined level of work and ensuring 24/7 staffing coverage.
• Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post. Employee is responsible for subordinate officers' activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders.
