Job summary

Adult Correction Agency is seeking a Correctional Sergeant I to supervise subordinate officers and oversee custody and welfare of male offenders in a minimum custody facility.

The role requires eligibility for state certification, background check, drug screen, valid driver's license, and willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. Salary range $37,377–$65,408 with state benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Conducting shift line‑up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post
• Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post
• Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms
• Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready
• Responsible for subordinate officers' activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders
• Working rotating and various duty assignments within the defined level of work. The selected candidate may be scheduled to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staffing coverage.
